It then travels northward along the eastern coast of the United States.<\/li>\n<li>It follows\u00a0a north-eastward\u00a0path\u00a0across the western North Atlantic Ocean.<\/li>\n<li>The current carries warm water from the tropics (around 25 to 28\u00b0C or 77 to 82\u00b0F) to higher latitudes.<\/li>\n<li>It is several hundred kilometres wide and can flow at an average speed of about 2.5 meters per second.
