{"id":18378,"date":"2023-12-20T06:01:28","date_gmt":"2023-12-20T00:31:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18378"},"modified":"2025-04-05T10:31:49","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T05:01:49","slug":"andriamamelo-cave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/andriamamelo-cave\/","title":{"rendered":"Andriamamelo Cave"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Andriamamelo Cave<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is situated in the\u00a0western Madagascar.<\/li>\n<li>It is located in\u00a0karstified limestone of the Paysage Harmonieux Protege de Beanka.<\/li>\n<li>This is part of an extensive karst region that includes the\u00a0Parc National de Bemaraha to the south, a\u00a0UNESCO World Heritage site, and the little-studied Antsingimavo karst area to the north.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key findings<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In this cave truly pictorial art, depicting images of\u00a0nature with human-like and animal-like figures have been discovered.<\/li>\n<li>The dramatic discoveries contained several surprises, including hints at some remarkable cultural connections.<\/li>\n<li>First, scenes depicted in some cases linked up fairly directly to\u00a0Egyptian religious motifs from the\u00a0Ptolemaic period (300-30 BCE)<\/li>\n<li>Second, other inferences from symbols and writing on the walls\u00a0showed connections to the Ethiopian and Afro-Arab worlds.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, prevalent symbology and motifs evoked a two-millennia-old cave art style from Borneo.<\/li>\n<li>At least three extinct animals of Madagascar (thought to have been extinct for many centuries) may be depicted \u2013\u00a0a giant sloth lemur, elephant birds and a giant tortoise.<\/li>\n<li>Egyptian connections are hinted at in eight major images, including\u00a0a falcon (Horus); the bird-headed god Thoth; the\u00a0ostrich goddess Ma`at and two human-animal figures which were similar to\u00a0Anubis\u00a0\u2013 an ancient Egyptian god usually depicted as a man with a canine head.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Karst topography?<\/h3>\n<p>It refers to natural landscape that is largely the result of chemical weathering by water, resulting in caves, sinkholes, cliffs, and steep-sided hills called towers.
