{"id":1840,"date":"2025-01-02T11:31:23","date_gmt":"2025-01-02T06:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=1840"},"modified":"2025-01-12T16:12:51","modified_gmt":"2025-01-12T10:42:51","slug":"what-is-di-ammonium-phosphate-dap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-di-ammonium-phosphate-dap\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is one of the most <strong>widely used fertilizers globally<\/strong>, <strong>providing<\/strong> essential nutrients\u2014<strong>nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P<\/strong>)\u2014for plant growth.<\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>second most commonly used fertilizer in India after urea.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>high in phosphorus (P)<\/strong> that stimulates <strong>root establishment and development<\/strong>-without which plants cannot grow to their normal size or will take too long to mature.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s <strong>highly soluble<\/strong> and thus <strong>dissolves quickly in soil<\/strong> to release plant-available phosphate and ammonium.<\/li>\n<li>DAP has <strong>additional uses, including:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>o As a <strong>fire retardant<\/strong>. For example, a mixture of DAP and other ingredients can be spread in advance of a fire to prevent a forest from burning.<\/li>\n<li>o In various industrial processes, such as <strong>metal finishing.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>o An <strong>addition to wine to sustain yeast fermentation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>o An addition to milk to produce cheese cultures.<\/li>\n<li>o It proves as a <strong>flux for soldering tin, copper, brass, and zinc.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme?<\/h3>\n<p>It was implemented in 2010 by the Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals &amp; Fertilizers. A fixed amount of subsidy decided on an annual basis, is provided on each grade of subsidized Phosphatic &amp; Potassic (P&amp;K) fertilizers depending on its Nutrient Content. In case of phosphate (P) and potassic(K) fertilisers, subsidy is fixed under this scheme by an inter-ministerial committee taking into account the benchmark international prices of finished fertilisers as well as raw materials.
