{"id":18426,"date":"2023-12-21T01:55:10","date_gmt":"2023-12-20T20:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18426"},"modified":"2025-04-05T10:50:32","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T05:20:32","slug":"mdckra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mdckra\/","title":{"rendered":"Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Named after the\u00a0hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand (1905\u201379), an Indian legendary field hockey player, the &#8220;Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award&#8221; (erstwhile Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratan Award) is the\u00a0highest sporting honour in India.<\/li>\n<li>Instituted in 1991\u20131992, the award is\u00a0conferred annually by the\u00a0Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility:\n<ul>\n<li>The spectacular and most outstanding performance in\u00a0the field of\u00a0sports and games\u00a0at the international level, i.e. Olympic\/Asian\/Commonwealth\/World Games\/Championships\/World Cup and equivalently recognized international tournaments,\u00a0by a sportsperson over a period of four years immediately preceding\u00a0the year during which the award is to be given.<\/li>\n<li>During the years when Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games\u00a0and Asian Games are held, the\u00a0achievements of the sportspersons\u00a0in these Games and other abovementioned\u00a0tournaments\u00a0up to the conclusion of the Olympic Games\/Commonwealth\/Asian Games,\u00a0as the case may be, will also be considered.<\/li>\n<li>Sportspersons who have been\u00a0penalized or against\u00a0whom an\u00a0enquiry is pending or ongoing\u00a0for the use of drugs\/substances banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will\u00a0not be eligible\u00a0for the award.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>General Conditions:\n<ul>\n<li>No award will be made\u00a0for a second time to the same person.<\/li>\n<li>There will be\u00a0only one award every year to be given to an individual sportsperson. This condition will be\u00a0relaxed only in exceptional circumstances.<\/li>\n<li>The award\u00a0may be given posthumously if such an occasion arises.<\/li>\n<li>The Government of India\u00a0may cancel or\u00a0annul the award for any recipient\u00a0for specific reasons, including doping.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Benefits: The award will consist of the following:\n<ul>\n<li>A cash amount of\u00a0\u20b925,00,000, which is exempt from income tax and wealth tax.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0Certificate of honor to each sportsperson.<\/li>\n<li>One medal to each sportsperson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)?<\/h3>\n<p>WADA was established in 1999 as an international independent agency to lead a collaborative worldwide movement for doping-free sport.
