{"id":18443,"date":"2023-12-22T10:21:17","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T04:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18443"},"modified":"2025-04-05T10:56:37","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T05:26:37","slug":"red-tide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/red-tide\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Tide"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Red Tide<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a common term used for a\u00a0harmful algal bloom.<\/li>\n<li>Harmful algal blooms, or HABs, occur when colonies of algae\u2014plant-like organisms that live in the sea and freshwater\u2014grow out of control.<\/li>\n<li>The name \u201cred tide\u201d comes from the fact that overgrowth of algae can\u00a0cause the color of the water to turn red.<\/li>\n<li>Why does it occur?\n<ul>\n<li>Chemicals from farming, factories, sewage treatment plants and other sources can become dissolved in water on the land.<\/li>\n<li>This water, called runoff, eventually flows into the ocean and can cause algae to grow faster, leading to red tides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Impacts\n<ul>\n<li>Some of the algae that cause a red tide\u00a0produce powerful toxins, which are harmful chemicals that can\u00a0kill fish, shellfish, mammals and birds.<\/li>\n<li>If people eat fish or shellfish that have been in the water with toxic algae, they will also ingest the toxins, which can make them sick.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the National Green Tribunal?<\/h3>\n<p>It has been established under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010. New Delhi is the Principal Place of Sitting of the Tribunal and Bhopal, Pune, Kolkata and Chennai shall be the other four places of sitting of the Tribunal.
