


{"id":18455,"date":"2026-03-11T12:00:27","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T06:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18455"},"modified":"2026-03-11T15:26:31","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T09:56:31","slug":"cisf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/cisf\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India marked the Raising Day of the Central Industrial Security Force on March 10, recognising the vital role the force plays in protecting the country\u2019s most important infrastructure and industrial assets. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in India operating under the <\/span><b>Ministry of Home Affairs.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides <\/span><b>security to various critical infrastructures,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including 70 airports and 361 important national installations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Headquarters: New Delhi<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Motto: \u201cProtection and Security\u201d.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) <\/b><b>Establishment<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea of forming a specialised industrial security force gained urgency after the <\/span><b>Indo-Pakistani War of 1965<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which exposed the vulnerability of vital economic assets during wartime.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CISF <\/span><b>came into existence in 1969<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through the <\/span><b>CISF Act 1968<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a sanctioned strength of only three battalions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>original charter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of CISF was to provide integrated <\/span><b>security cover to certain sensitive public sector undertakings.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Act was <\/span><b>amended in 1983, declaring <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>CISF as an Armed Force of the Union.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The force has since <\/span><b>grown into a premier multi-skilled organization<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a present strength of more than 188,000 personnel.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)\u00a0 <\/b><b>Organisation Structure<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CISF is <\/span><b>headed by an Indian Police Service officer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the rank of <\/span><b>Director-General<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, assisted by an IPS officer in the rank of Addl. Director-General.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The force is divided into <\/span><b>seven sectors (Airport, North, North-East, East, West, South, and Training)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>also has a Fire Service Wing.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The force consists of<\/span><b> seven training institutes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 six Recruit Training Centers and the<\/span><b> National Industrial Security Academy (NISA).\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) <\/b><b>Functions<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CISF security umbrella includes India\u2019s <\/span><b>most critical infrastructure facilities, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">like <\/span><b>nuclear installations, space establishments, airports, seaports, power plants, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The specialized task of<\/span><b> airport security<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was<\/span><b> assigned<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to CISF in the year <\/span><b>2000 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the <\/span><b>wake of the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight IC-814<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Kandahar.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, the CISF also<\/span><b> protects important government buildings,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> iconic <\/span><b>heritage monuments, Delhi Metro, Parliament House Complex, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Central Jails of Jammu and Kashmir.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CISF also has a <\/span><b>specialized VIP Security vertical,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> providing round-the-clock security to important protectees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CISF personnel are <\/span><b>trained in disaster management techniques, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enabling them to actively respond to natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, and cyclones.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CISF is one of the largest F<\/span><b>ire Protection Service providers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the country.
