{"id":1846,"date":"2025-01-02T11:36:40","date_gmt":"2025-01-02T06:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=1846"},"modified":"2025-01-12T16:12:51","modified_gmt":"2025-01-12T10:42:51","slug":"tobacco-board-of-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/tobacco-board-of-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Tobacco Board of India"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Tobacco Board of India:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a statutory body established on 1st January 1976 by an Act of Parliament <strong>\u201cTobacco Board Act, 1975<\/strong> (Act 4 of 1975)\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>The Board is headed by a Chairman and is responsible for the development of the tobacco industry.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The primary function of the Board is <strong>export promotion of all varieties of tobacco and its allied products<\/strong>, its functions extend to production, distribution (for domestic consumption and exports) and regulation of Flue Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco.<\/li>\n<li>It ensures the smooth functioning of the farming system and to ensure <strong>fair and remunerative prices for tobacco<\/strong> farmers and the promotion of exports.<\/li>\n<li>Financial assistance is <strong>extended to farmers through banks<\/strong>, along with the necessary inputs for the production of quality tobacco.<\/li>\n<li>The Board also engages in extension and developmental activities to promote sustainable tobacco cultivation practices.<\/li>\n<li>The Board supports farmers by providing handholding assistance to produce tobacco of requisite quality to meet the standards of importing countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Headquarters:<\/strong> Guntur, Andhra Pradesh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal Ministry:<\/strong> Ministry of Commerce and Industry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>India\u2019s Tobacco Industry<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>India is the <strong>2nd largest producer of tobacco<\/strong> in the world after China.<\/li>\n<li>India is the <strong>4th largest producer of FCV tobacco<\/strong> in the world after China, Brazil and Zimbabwe.<\/li>\n<li>India is the <strong>2nd largest exporter of unmanufactured tobacco<\/strong> (quantity terms) after Brazil.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Nicotine?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a naturally produced alkaloid in the nightshade family of plants and is widely used recreationally as a stimulant and anxiolytic.
