{"id":18491,"date":"2026-10-20T12:51:20","date_gmt":"2026-10-20T07:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18491"},"modified":"2026-10-20T14:03:45","modified_gmt":"2026-10-20T08:33:45","slug":"psh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/psh\/","title":{"rendered":"Pumped Storage Hydropower"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Pumped Storage Hydropower Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to recent updates India has 7.43 GW of operational Pumped Storage Hydropower (PSP) capacity across 10 projects as of August 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Pumped Storage Hydropower\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a type of <\/span><b>hydroelectric energy storage.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PSH is a fundamentally simple system that consists of <\/span><b>two water reservoirsat different elevations.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PSPs are classified according to how their reservoirs are connected to, or situated in relation to, natural watercourses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Types: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are grouped into three types: <\/span><b>on-stream, off-stream open-loop<\/b> <b>and off-stream closed-loop schemes.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>On-stream Pumped Storage<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These have both reservoirs <\/span><b>located on a river, stream or nallah.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To meet the electricity demands, water stored in the upper reservoir flows through turbines to generate electricity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During periods of low electricity demand or surplus power, water is pumped back to the upper reservoir for reuse.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Off-stream Open-loop Pumped Storage<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These have one <\/span><b>reservoir located on a river,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stream or nallah.
