{"id":18495,"date":"2023-12-23T11:07:56","date_gmt":"2023-12-23T05:37:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18495"},"modified":"2025-04-05T11:17:24","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T05:47:24","slug":"brahma-2d","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/brahma-2d\/","title":{"rendered":"What is BRAHMA-2D?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About BRAHMA-2D<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>BRAHMA-2D (Braided River Aid: Hydro-Morphological Analyzer) is a\u00a0mathematical model to gauge the flow of large\u00a0braided rivers like the Brahmaputra.<\/li>\n<li>It is a quasi-3D river flow model which\u00a0helps to understand how fast the water moves at different depths inside a river\u00a0and its circulation around a structure like a spur installed to prevent river bank erosion.<\/li>\n<li>It can\u00a0help engineers in the design of sustainable hydraulic structures like spurs, reverent,\u00a0and other river bank protection measures in order to check river bank erosion.<\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0developed by the researchers at\u00a0IIT Guwahati in collaboration with the Brahmaputra Board\u00a0under the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.<\/li>\n<li>It was successfully\u00a0validated on the Brahmaputra River near Majuli Island, the second largest freshwater River Island in the world, in Assam, which is prone to river bank erosion.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0integrates a two-dimensional model of water movement with a theory about entropy, a measure of disorder or randomness.<\/li>\n<li>Specifically, it observes a dip phenomenon near spurs\u00a0where the flow of water underneath increases, a phenomenon absent at points away from these structures.<\/li>\n<li>It has\u00a0also been applied to understand the habitat suitability of aquatic species, especially endangered species, based on the availability of the required depth and flow velocity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Entropy?<\/h3>\n<p>Entropy is a measure of how dispersed and random the energy and mass of a system are distributed. Importantly, entropy is a state function, like temperature or pressure, as opposed to a path function, like heat or work.
