{"id":18525,"date":"2025-11-15T11:20:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T05:50:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18525"},"modified":"2025-11-18T13:48:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T08:18:07","slug":"katarniaghat-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/katarniaghat-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 55-year-old farmer was mauled to death by a leopard in a field adjoining a forest area here under the Kakraha Range of the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is situated in the <\/span><b>Upper Gangetic plain, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">falling in the <\/span><b>Terai of the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1987, it was brought under the purview of the <\/span><b>\u2018Project Tiger\u2019, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>together with the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the <\/span><b>Dudhwa National Park<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it <\/span><b>forms the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The total area of the sanctuary is 400.09 sq.km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sharing an international border with Nepal,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this sanctuary was <\/span><b>established to protect its Gharial <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Gavialis gangeticus) population.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides <\/span><b>strategic connectivity between t<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he tiger habitats of <\/span><b>Dudhwa and Kishanpur in India and the Bardia National Park in Nepal.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Katarniyaghat&#8217;s vegetation consists of <\/span><b>grasslands, mixed deciduous forests, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and moist deciduous forests with sal trees.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It is <\/span><b>predominantly Sal Forest<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with its associate tree species like Terminalia alata (Asna), Lagerstroemia parviflora (Asidha), Adina cordifonia (Haldu), Mitragyna parpiflora (Faldu), Gamelina arborea (Gahmhar), etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is home to a number of endangered species, including the <\/span><b>gharial, tiger, rhino, Gangetic dolphin,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Swamp deer, Hispid hare, Bengal florican, the White-backed and Long-billed vultures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Gairwa River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which flows in the KWS area, is declared a <\/span><b>sanctuary for Mugger and Gharial.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is also home to rare turtles, freshwater fish, and a host of aquatic life.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"2\">It is among the few places in India where<b style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> freshwater dolphins<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also known as <\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Gangetic dolphins,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are found in their natural habitat.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ptinews.com\/editor-detail\/leopard-mauls-farmer-to-death-near-wildlife-sanctuary-in-up-s-bahraich\/3095314\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PTI<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Upper Gangetic plain, falling in the Terai of the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh.
