{"id":18530,"date":"2025-10-27T11:20:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T05:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18530"},"modified":"2025-10-27T13:47:04","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T08:17:04","slug":"sone-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sone-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Sone River"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Sone River Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bodies of two persons, who had gone missing while bathing in the Sone river on the occasion of the Chhath festival, were fished out in Jharkhand&#8217;s Palamu district recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sone River<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sone River, also called Son, is a <\/span><b>principal southern tributary of the Ganges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Ganga) River<\/span><b> after the Yamuna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> River.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It flows through the states of <\/span><b>Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Course<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>originates <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the <\/span><b>Amarkantak highlands in Madhya Pradesh,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the east direction of the origin of the Narmada River.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It then flows in the <\/span><b>north-northwest direction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through Madhya Pradesh before turning in the east direction where it<\/span><b> meets the Kaimur range.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The river starts flowing in the <\/span><b>parallel direction of the Kaimur range<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the east-northeast direction <\/span><b>through Uttar Pradesh and Bihar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>joins the Ganga River just above Patna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Total Length: 784 km<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a<\/span><b> wide and shallow river<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and forms pools of water in the remaining parts of the river.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>floodplain <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the river is <\/span><b>narrow <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and is only 3 to 5 kilometers wide.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The river\u2019s flow is <\/span><b>seasonal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the Sone is <\/span><b>unimportant for navigation.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sone valley is <\/span><b>geologically almost a continuation of that of the Narmada River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the southwest. It is <\/span><b>largely forested and sparsely populated.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The valley is <\/span><b>bordered by <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span><b> Kaimur Range<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the north and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/chota-nagpur-plateau\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Chota Nagpur plateau <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the south.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Tributaries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The main tributaries are the <\/span><b>Rihand <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">River and the <\/span><b>Koel <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">River.
