{"id":1858,"date":"2026-01-12T11:47:24","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T06:17:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=1858"},"modified":"2026-01-12T14:31:20","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T09:01:20","slug":"central-groundwater-board-cgwb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/central-groundwater-board-cgwb\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Groundwater Board (CGWB)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Central Ground Water Board Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) recently stated in its Annual Ground Water Quality Report-2025 that Andhra Pradesh is one of the States facing widespread contamination of groundwater as per the BIS standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Central Ground Water Board<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>multidisciplinary scientific organization <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the <\/span><b>Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Government of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>National Apex Agency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> entrusted with the responsibilities of <\/span><b>providing scientific inputs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for <\/span><b>management, exploration, monitoring, assessment,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> augmentation, and <\/span><b>regulation of groundwater resources <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>established in 1970<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by<\/span><b> renaming the Exploratory Tube wells Organization<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the <\/span><b>Ministry of Agriculture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Government of India.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>merged with the Ground Water Wing of the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/geological-survey-of-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">Geological Survey of India<\/a><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during 1972.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Mandate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Develop and disseminate technologies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and monitor and <\/span><b>implement national policies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the scientific and sustainable <\/span><b>development and management <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of India\u2019s <\/span><b>groundwater resources.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Organization Setup:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>headed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the <\/span><b>Chairman <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and has five members.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CGWB is a multidisciplinary scientific organization <\/span><b>consisting of Hydrogeologists,<\/b> <b>Geophysicists, Chemists, Hydrologists<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Hydrometeorologists, and <\/span><b>Engineers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <\/span><b>four main wings,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> namely\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sustainable Management &amp; Liaison (SML)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Survey, Assessment &amp; Monitoring (SAM)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exploratory Drilling &amp;
