{"id":18721,"date":"2023-12-29T08:42:55","date_gmt":"2023-12-29T03:12:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18721"},"modified":"2025-04-05T12:40:18","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T07:10:18","slug":"what-is-patriot-pac-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-patriot-pac-3\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Patriot PAC-3?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Patriot PAC-3 Missile:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Phased Array Tracking to Intercept of Target<\/strong> (PATRIOT) Advanced Capability-Three (<strong>PAC-3<\/strong>) program is a <strong>surface-to-air-defenseguided missile system<\/strong> with <strong>all-weather capabilities<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It has been <strong>built by Raytheon Technologies Corp<\/strong> and is considered one of the most advanced <strong>air defense systems in the U.S. arsenal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It entered service with the US Army in 2001 and the US Air Force in 2003.<\/li>\n<li>It has been <strong>exported to Germany, Japan<\/strong>, <strong>Kuwait<\/strong>, the Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, Romania, <strong>South Korea<\/strong>, Sweden, <strong>Taiwan,<\/strong> and the <strong>United Arab Emirates.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is designed to <strong>counter tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles<\/strong>, and advanced aircraft.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o The combat element of the PATRIOT system is the <strong>fire unit<\/strong>, primarily <strong>consisting of a radar set (RS),<\/strong> an <strong>engagementcontrol station (ECS),<\/strong> and <strong>launching stations<\/strong> (LS).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>o The RS provides airspace surveillance, target detection, discrimination, identification, classification, simultaneous tracking of targets, missile guidance, and engagement support.<\/p>\n<p>o The <strong>LS has a load-out capacity of between 12 and 16 PAC-3 missiles,<\/strong> depending on configuration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>o It <strong>uses hit-to-kill technology<\/strong>, rather than a blast-fragmentation warhead, to destroy agile targets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>o It has a <strong>range of about 40 km<\/strong> and can reach targets at <strong>an altitude of up to 20 km.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are ballistic missiles?<\/h2>\n<p>Ballistic missiles are powered initially by a rocket or series of rockets in stages, but then follow an unpowered trajectory that arches upwards before descending to reach its intended target.
