For about <strong>eight months <\/strong>of the year (late September until early June), the <strong>river is frozen<\/strong> to depths of several meters.<\/li>\n<li>It is primarily fed by spring snowmelt and summer rainfall.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>entire basin is covered by tundra or thin, stunted forest<\/strong> and has a sparse human population.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00b7 The river has a mean annual discharge of about 136 cubic kilometers of water per year, making it <strong>one of the six largest rivers to drain into the Arctic Ocean.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Permafrost?<\/h3>\n<p>Permafrost is any ground that remains completely frozen\u201432\u00b0F (0\u00b0C) or colder\u2014for at least two years straight.
