Botanically it belongs to Sapindaceae family.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The translucent, flavoured aril or edible flesh of the litchi is popular as a table fruit in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Litchis are believed to have arrived in India from China over 300 years ago.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Required climatic condition for Litchis<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Litchi is a <\/span><b>sub-tropical fruit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and thrives best under <\/span><b>moist sub-tropical climate.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It usually prefers low elevation and can be <\/span><b>grown up to an altitude of 800 m.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Soil:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Deep, well drained loamy soil, rich in organic matter and having pH in the range of 5.0 to 7.0 is ideal for the crop.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Temperature:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The temperature should not go beyond 40.5 0C in summer and below freezing <\/span><b>point in winter.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rain:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Prolonged rain may be harmful especially at the time of flowering, when it interferes with pollination.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The young trees <\/span><b>require protection against frost and hot winds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for several years till they are firmly established, even though some variation in temperature is necessary for proper fruiting of trees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frost during winter and dry heat in summer are limiting factors for its successful cultivation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Distribution of Litchis Cultivation<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In India, commercial cultivation was traditionally restricted to the north in the <\/span><b>foothills of Himalayas from Tripura to Jammu &amp; Kashmir<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and plains of Uttar Pradesh and <\/span><b>Madhya Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India is the second largest producer of litchi in the World after China.
