{"id":18782,"date":"2023-12-30T11:44:19","date_gmt":"2023-12-30T06:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18782"},"modified":"2025-04-05T13:03:41","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T07:33:41","slug":"kip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kip\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Know India Programme (KIP)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Know India Programme (KIP)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>KIP is a flagship programme of the\u00a0Ministry of External Affairs for\u00a0engagement with Indian origin youth (between 18 and 30 years old).<\/li>\n<li>It is a\u00a0three-week orientation programme for diaspora youth conducted with a view\u00a0to\u00a0promoting awareness of different facets of life in\u00a0contemporary India.<\/li>\n<li>The programme has been in\u00a0existence since 2003.<\/li>\n<li>Features of KIP:\n<ul>\n<li>As a part of the programme, the applicants finalized through the selection process\u00a0visit India for a 21-day schedule.<\/li>\n<li>90% of the cost of\u00a0international airfare for KIP participants visiting India is\u00a0borne by the Ministry, while the remaining 10% is borne by the applicants themselves.<\/li>\n<li>During the period of their stay in India, the\u00a0Ministry provides for their\u00a0accommodation, meals, and domestic transportation by road\/air.<\/li>\n<li>During the period of their stay in India, the KIP participants are\u00a0given insights into their understanding of India\u2019s political system, economy, society, and developments in various key sectors.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Further, they are also provided exposure to India\u2019s history and heritage by\u00a0visiting places of historical\u00a0and cultural significance.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Ministry also facilitates their\u00a0interactions with students and professionals from various fields, along with arranging for meetings and call on visits with senior officials and leadership.<\/li>\n<li>The KIP participants are also taken for a 7\u201310-day state visit to one or more Indian states as a part of the Programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility Criteria:\n<ul>\n<li>The programme is open to\u00a0youth of Indian origin (excluding non-resident Indians) in the age group of\u00a018-30 years, with\u00a0preference given to those from Girmitiya countries\u00a0(Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, T&amp;T, Jamaica, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>The applicant\u00a0should not have participated in any previous KIP or Internship Programme for Diaspora Youth (IPDY) Study India Programme of MEA or any other such programmes organised by the Government of India or a State Government in India.<\/li>\n<li>Those who have not visited India before will\u00a0be\u00a0given preference.<\/li>\n<li>The minimum qualification required for participating in KIP\u00a0is graduation from a recognized University \/Institute\u00a0or enrolled for graduation.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0applicants should be able to speak in English,\u00a0have studied English as a subject\u00a0at the High School level, or have English as the\u00a0medium of instruction for undergraduate course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are Girmitiya countries?<\/h3>\n<p>Between the early 19th and early 20th centuries, more than a million indentured Indian labourers, or \u2018girmitiyas\u2019, were transported from British India to work on plantations in 19 British colonies.
