{"id":18836,"date":"2023-12-31T07:19:50","date_gmt":"2023-12-31T01:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18836"},"modified":"2025-04-05T13:34:17","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T08:04:17","slug":"mukurthinp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/mukurthinp\/","title":{"rendered":"Mukurthi National Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Mukurthi National Park<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is located in the western corner of\u00a0Nilgiris Plateau in the state of\u00a0Tamil Nadu.<\/li>\n<li>It is a part of the\u00a0Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.<\/li>\n<li>It is sandwiched\u00a0between\u00a0the\u00a0Mudumalai National Park and the Silent Valley National Park.<\/li>\n<li>It was established with the prime motive of conserving its keystone species \u2013\u00a0the Nilgiri Tahr.<\/li>\n<li>It is a\u00a0UNESCO World Heritage Site and was formerly known as Nilgiri Tahr National Park.<\/li>\n<li>It is also home to\u00a0Mukurthi Peak (2,554m), the fourth highest peak in the Nilgiri Hills.<\/li>\n<li>Rivers:\u00a0Pykara and Kundah rivers flow through the park along with several perennial streams that originate in the park and drain into the Bhavani Puzha.<\/li>\n<li>Vegetation:\n<ul>\n<li>The majority of the landscape in the reserve is covered with\u00a0shrubs and mountainous grasslands.<\/li>\n<li>The areas which are at an elevation and experience high rainfall are covered with\u00a0sholas and lush green tropical grasslands.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Flora:\n<ul>\n<li>Sholas, Gaultheria fragrantissima, Helichrysum and Berberis tinctoria, Rhododendrons, Cinnamon, Mahonia, Satyrium, Raspberries etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Fauna:\u00a0Nilgiri tahr, Indian elephants, Nilgiri Langur, Bengal tiger and bonnet macaque etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are UNESCO World Heritage Sites?<\/h3>\n<p>A World Heritage Site (WHS) is a landmark or area with legal protection by an international convention administered by the UNESCO under the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, established in 1972.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/tamil-nadu\/tn-forest-department-to-investigate-private-helicopters-unauthorised-flyby-over-mukurthi-national-park\/article67686257.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><u>T.N.
