<\/span><b>some <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">opt to <\/span><b>use their own currency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and maintain their financial independence.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>EU members not using the euro<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Sweden\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> European Central Bank (ECB)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> exercises the sole power to <\/span><b>set the monetary policy for the Eurozone countries.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ECB exercises the s<\/span><b>ole authority to decide the printing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>minting of euro notes and coins. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also<\/span><b> decides the interest rate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the Eurozone.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ECBs is <\/span><b>headed by a president and a board,<\/b> <b>comprising <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>heads of the central banks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the participating nations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Eurozone <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has <\/span><b>mechanisms for support<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during periods of economic instability.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> European Stability Mechanism (ESM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was created to provide<\/span><b> financial assistance through rescue loans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under specific conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>How do countries join the Eurozone?<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to join the euro area, EU member states are <\/span><b>required to fulfil <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so-called <\/span><b>\u2018convergence criteria\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which consists of <\/span><b>price stability, sound public finances,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the d<\/span><b>urability of convergence,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>exchange rate stability.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These binding economic and legal conditions were <\/span><b>agreed upon in the Maastricht Treaty in 1992 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and are also known as<\/span><b> \u2018Maastricht criteria\u2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>All EU member states, except Denmark<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, are <\/span><b>required to adopt the euro<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and join the euro area once they are ready to fulfill them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Treaty <\/span><b>does not specify<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a <\/span><b>particular timetable for joining the euro area <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">but leaves it to member states to develop their own strategies for meeting the condition for euro adoption.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>European Commission and the ECB jointly decide<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> whether the<\/span><b> conditions are met <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for euro area candidate countries to adopt the euro.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><strong>:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/business\/eurozone-inflation-climbs-to-3-2-per-cent-in-may-as-energy-services-prices-heat-up-14018031.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>FP<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eurozone is a geographic and economic region that consists of countries in the European Union (EU) that have adopted the euro (\u20ac) as their national currency.
