


{"id":18869,"date":"2024-01-02T10:27:13","date_gmt":"2024-01-02T04:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18869"},"modified":"2025-04-05T13:46:35","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T08:16:35","slug":"xposat-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/xposat-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"XPoSat mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About XPoSat mission<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the first dedicated scientific satellite from ISRO to carry out research in space-polarisation measurements of\u00a0X-ray emission from celestial sources.<\/li>\n<li>It carries two payloads namely\n<ul>\n<li>POLIX:\u00a0It is an X-ray Polarimeter for astronomical observations in the energy band of 8-30 keV.<\/li>\n<li>The payload is being developed by Raman Research Institute (RRI), Bangalore in collaboration with U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC).<\/li>\n<li>It is expected to observe about 40 bright astronomical sources of different categories during the planned lifetime of\u00a0XPoSat mission of about 5 years.<\/li>\n<li>This is the first payload in\u00a0the medium X-ray energy band dedicated for polarimetry measurements.<\/li>\n<li>XSPECT:\u00a0It\u00a0is an\u00a0X-ray SPECtroscopy and Timing payload onboard XPoSat, which can provide fast timing and good spectroscopic resolution in soft X-rays.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0can provide long-term monitoring of spectral state changes in continuum emission, changes in their line flux and profile, simultaneous long term temporal monitoring of soft X-ray emission in the X-ray energy range 0.8-15 keV.<\/li>\n<li>It would observe several types of sources viz\u00a0X-ray pulsars, blackhole binaries, low-magnetic field neutron star (NS) in LMXBs, AGNs and Magnetars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The launch put India in an elite category as it has become the second (after NASA\u2019s Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) launched in 2021)\u00a0nation to send an observatory to study astronomical sources\u00a0such as black holes, neutron stars among others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is a magnetar ?<\/h3>\n<p>It is an exotic type of neutron star, its defining feature is that it has an ultra-powerful magnetic field. The field is about 1,000 times stronger than a normal neutron star and about a trillion times stronger than the Earth\u2019s.
