Devika Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About River Devika Project<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Built on the\u00a0lines of \u2018Namami Ganga\u2019, the project was launched in February 2019.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0north India\u2019s first river rejuvenation project.<\/li>\n<li>The project is implemented along the\u00a0Devika River in Jammu and Kashmir.<\/li>\n<li>It has been\u00a0included in the Government of India\u2019s\u00a0National River Conservation Project (NRCP).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Under the project,\u00a0bathing \u201cghats\u201d (places) on the banks of the Devika River\u00a0will be developed,\u00a0encroachments will be removed, natural water bodies will be restored, and\u00a0catchment areas will be developed along with cremation ground.<\/li>\n<li>The project\u00a0includes the construction of three sewage treatment plants with 8 MLD, 4 MLD and 1.6 MLD capacities, a sewerage network of 129.27 km, the\u00a0development of two cremation ghats, protection fencing and landscaping, small\u00a0hydropower plants, and\u00a0three solar power plants.<\/li>\n<li>Built at a cost of over Rs 190 crore, the\u00a0sharing of fund allocation is in the ratio of\u00a090:10 by the centre and UT, respectively.<\/li>\n<li>On completion of the project, the rivers will see a reduction in pollution and an improvement in water quality.<\/li>\n<li>It will offer a unique destination both for pilgrim tourists as well as recreation tourists, in addition to being a state-of-the-art cremation centre.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key Facts about Devika River<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Devika River is considered the\u00a0sister of the sacred river Ganga, and it has great religious significance.<\/li>\n<li>Course:\n<ul>\n<li>It originates from the hilly\u00a0Suddha Mahadev temple in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0flows down towards western Punjab (now in Pakistan), where it\u00a0merges with the Ravi River.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>As it appears and disappears in many places, Devika is\u00a0also known as Gupt Ganga.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the National River Conservation Project (NRCP)?<\/h3>\n<p>Under the NRCP, project proposals are received from the State Government from time to time for taking up pollution abatement works in towns along various rivers, and are considered for financial assistance on a cost sharing basis subject
