{"id":18937,"date":"2024-01-04T06:58:34","date_gmt":"2024-01-04T01:28:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=18937"},"modified":"2025-04-05T14:12:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T08:42:56","slug":"kli-sofc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kli-sofc\/","title":{"rendered":"Kochi-Lakshadweep islands submarine optical fiber connection project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Kochi-Lakshadweep islands submarine optical fiber connection project<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the submarine cable connectivity project from\u00a0Mainland (Kochi) to\u00a0eleven Lakshadweep Islands namely, Kavaratti, Agatti, Amini, Kadmat, Chetlet, Kalpeni, Minicoy, Androth, Kiltan, Bangaram and Bitra has been extended.<\/li>\n<li>The project is\u00a0funded by\u00a0Universal Services Obligation Fund (USOF), Department of Telecommunication.<\/li>\n<li>Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) was the Project Executing Agency and the work was awarded to M\/s NEC Corporation India Pvt Ltd through Global Open Tendering process.<\/li>\n<li>The major activities related to the project include Marine Route Survey, Submarine Cable laying, Civil Construction of CLS stations, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of End Terminals (SLTE).<\/li>\n<li>Significance of the project\n<ul>\n<li>The KLI-SOFC project will lead to an\u00a0increase in internet speed unlocking new possibilities &amp; opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>For the first time since independence, Lakshadweep will be connected through Submarine Optic Fibre Cable.<\/li>\n<li>The dedicated submarine OFC will ensure a paradigm shift in\u00a0communication infrastructure\u00a0in the Lakshadweep islands, enabling faster and more reliable internet services, telemedicine, e-governance, educational initiatives, digital banking, digital currency usage, digital literacy etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is an optical fiber?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a cylindrical dielectric waveguide (nonconducting waveguide) that transmits light along its axis through the process of total internal reflection.
