{"id":19041,"date":"2024-01-07T06:28:06","date_gmt":"2024-01-07T00:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19041"},"modified":"2025-04-05T14:53:26","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T09:23:26","slug":"bobbilli-veena","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bobbilli-veena\/","title":{"rendered":"Bobbilli Veena"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Bobbilli Veena<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The traditional \u2018Saraswati Veena\u2019 from Bobbili is famed for its fine tune and distinctive notes.<\/li>\n<li>It is a large plucked string instrument used in Carnatic music.<\/li>\n<li>The making of the veena began in the\u00a017th century during the reign of Pedda Rayudu, the king of\u00a0Bobbili Samsthanam who was a great patron of music.<\/li>\n<li>Features\n<ul>\n<li>These veenas are painstakingly\u00a0crafted from Jack-wood tree logs in Gollapalli, a town in Bobbili (AndhraPradesh).<\/li>\n<li>It takes almost a full month for a log of mute wood to be crafted into a fine musical instrument.<\/li>\n<li>Jack-wood is preferred as it is light and the unique grain of the wood renders the quality of swara or tone.<\/li>\n<li>A single piece of wood is used to create the instrument giving it the name\u00a0\u2018Ekandi Veena\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>These Veenas are also remarkable for the exquisite designs etched on the body, making each piece exclusive.<\/li>\n<li>With their origin dating back to the Seventeenth Century, these veenas are played in a distinctive style, which also led to the coinage of the \u2018Bobbili Veena Sampradayam\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It earned a\u00a0Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2012 for its unique design and high-quality craftsmanship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Carnatic Music?<\/h3>\n<p>Carnatic Music is a form of Indian classical music with origins in Southern India.
