{"id":19105,"date":"2024-01-09T10:05:25","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T04:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19105"},"modified":"2025-04-05T15:18:47","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T09:48:47","slug":"world-heritage-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/world-heritage-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the World Heritage Committee?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About World Heritage Committee<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a committee of the\u00a0United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.<\/li>\n<li>The Committee is responsible for the\u00a0implementation of the World Heritage Convention,\u00a0defines the use of the World Heritage Fund, and\u00a0allocates financial assistance upon requests from States Parties.<\/li>\n<li>It has the\u00a0final say on whether a property is inscribed on the World Heritage List.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It\u00a0examines reports on the state of conservation of inscribed properties and\u00a0asks States Parties to take action\u00a0when properties are not being properly managed.<\/li>\n<li>It also\u00a0decides on the inscription or deletion of properties on the List of World Heritage in Danger.<\/li>\n<li>Structure:\n<ul>\n<li>It consists of\u00a0representatives from 21 of the States Parties to the Convention elected by their General Assembly.<\/li>\n<li>A Committee\u00a0member&#8217;s term of office is six years, but most state parties choose voluntarily to be members of the committee for only four years in order to give other states parties an opportunity to be on the committee.<\/li>\n<li>Bureau of the World Heritage Committee:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Bureau consists of\u00a0seven states parties elected annually\u00a0by the Committee: a Chairperson, five Vice-Chairpersons, and a Rapporteur.<\/li>\n<li>The Bureau of the Committee\u00a0coordinates the work of the Committee and fixes the dates, hours, and order of business of meetings.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a specialized agency of the United Nations.
