{"id":19252,"date":"2024-10-04T10:38:56","date_gmt":"2024-10-04T05:08:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19252"},"modified":"2025-04-05T16:16:15","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T10:46:15","slug":"classical-language","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/classical-language\/","title":{"rendered":"Classical Language"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Classical Language Status Criteria:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The recognition of a classical language is based on criteria established by a <strong>Linguistic Experts Committee.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>According to the committee, the following revised benchmarks must be met for a language to be considered &#8220;classical&#8221;:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>High antiquity<\/strong> of (its) is early texts\/recorded history over a period of <strong>1500- 2000 years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A <strong>body of ancient literature<\/strong>\/texts, which is considered a heritage by generations of speakers.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge texts, especially prose texts in addition to poetry, epigraphical and inscriptional evidence.<\/li>\n<li>The Classical Languages and literature could be distinct from its current form or could be discontinuous with later forms of its offshoots.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Other Recognised Classical Languages are: Tamil <\/strong>( 2004), <strong>Sanskrit<\/strong> (2005), <strong>Telugu<\/strong>( 2008),<strong> Kannada <\/strong>(2008)<strong>, Malayalam<\/strong>( 2013) and <strong>Odia <\/strong>(2014).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Benefits of Classical Language Status<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Once a language is designated as classical, the Ministry of Education provides various benefits to promote it, including:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Two major international awards<\/strong> annually for scholars of eminence in the language.<\/li>\n<li>Establishment of a <strong>Centre of Excellence for Studies<\/strong> in the Classical Language.<\/li>\n<li>Requesting the University Grants Commission (UGC) to create Professional Chairs in Central Universities dedicated to the classical language.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the University Grants Commission of India?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a statutory body under the provisions of UGC Act, 1956. It is responsible for coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education.
