{"id":19285,"date":"2024-01-13T05:41:50","date_gmt":"2024-01-13T00:11:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19285"},"modified":"2025-04-05T16:30:12","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T11:00:12","slug":"sgrtd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sgrtd\/","title":{"rendered":"What is SBI Green Rupee Term Deposit (SGRTD) Scheme?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About SBI Green Rupee Term Deposit (SGRTD) Scheme<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an\u00a0initiative of the State Bank of India (SBI) with the aim of raising money\u00a0to finance environment-friendly projects.<\/li>\n<li>The deposit scheme is\u00a0open to resident individuals, non-individuals, and non-resident Indian (NRI) customers.<\/li>\n<li>The current framework\u00a0permits green deposits to be denominated in rupees only.<\/li>\n<li>It offers investors the flexibility to choose from\u00a0three distinct tenors: 1,111 days, 1,777 days, and 2,222 days.<\/li>\n<li>Interest Rate:\n<ul>\n<li>SGRTD will offer\u00a010 basis points (bps) interest rates\u00a0below the card rate for retail and bulk deposits for respective tenors.<\/li>\n<li>Senior Citizens\/ Staff\/ Staff Senior Citizens are eligible for an additional interest rate over the applicable rate for the public.<\/li>\n<li>The benefit of additional interest shall\u00a0not be available to NRI Senior Citizens\/NRI Staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Pre-mature withdrawals are allowed\u00a0under the scheme.<\/li>\n<li>Loan\/ overdraft facility will be available against the deposit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is Green Deposit?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A Green deposit is an\u00a0interest-bearing deposit,\u00a0received by the regulated entities (RE)\u00a0for a fixed period,\u00a0the proceeds of which are earmarked for\u00a0being allocated towards green finance.<\/li>\n<li>The deposits raised under the framework are\u00a0covered by the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are Term Deposits?\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>A term deposit is a fixed-period investment option offered by several banks and financial institution. Term deposit investments generally have short maturity period ranging from one week to five years.
