


{"id":19426,"date":"2025-10-18T12:42:32","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T07:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19426"},"modified":"2025-10-18T13:57:31","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T08:27:31","slug":"kolam-tribes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kolam-tribes\/","title":{"rendered":"Kolam Tribes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kolam Tribe Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, a<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pilot bamboo plantation project was initiated to restore traditional livelihoods of Kolam tribal people in Adilabad district of Telangana.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kolam Tribe<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kolam tribes, also known as <\/span><b>Kolamboli, Kulme and Kolmi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, occupy a major portion of Madhya Pradesh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These tribal groups are reckoned as <\/span><b>scheduled tribes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and apart from Madhya Pradesh they reside in some parts of <\/span><b>Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are listed as <\/span><b>Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>History:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around the twelfth century, the <\/span><b>Kolam served as priests for the Gond<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, representing some of their important gods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is generally accepted that the Kolam descended from the original population in the area.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since they now live near the Gond, they have adopted much of the Gond lifestyle.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Society and Tradition of Kolam Tribe<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kolam people <\/span><b>are divided into different clans,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like Chal Deve, Pach Deve, Saha Deve, and Sat Deve.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marriages between the same <\/span><b>clans are not permissible.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kolams use the name of their <\/span><b>clans as their surnames.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their society is <\/span><b>patrilineal, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meaning that the line of descent is traced through the males.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Occupation:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Kolam are mainly <\/span><b>farmers and forest workers.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In times past, they used shifting cultivation on the hill slopes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Language:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They speak a Dravidian <\/span><b>language called Kolami,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and nearly all of the adults also speak <\/span><b>Marathi, Telugu, or Gondi.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For writing they uses the <\/span><b>famous Devnagari script.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Kolam people celebrate different rituals that include <\/span><b>Matya or Churaghali, Bai-Baki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Sati, Jaitur Pooja, Waghai Pooja etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/telangana\/pilot-bamboo-plantation-project-to-restore-traditional-livelihoods-of-kolam-adivasis-in-adilabad-district\/article70176211.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kolam Tribe also known as Kolamboli, Kulme and Kolmi, occupy a major portion of Madhya Pradesh.
