{"id":19454,"date":"2024-01-18T01:27:50","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T19:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19454"},"modified":"2025-04-05T17:39:15","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T12:09:15","slug":"abcp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/abcp\/","title":{"rendered":"Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was\u00a0founded in 1970 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, as a\u00a0voluntary movement of followers of Buddhism with both monastic (monks) and lay members.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Its aim is to bring together the efforts of Buddhists in support of\u00a0consolidating universal peace, harmony, and cooperation among people in Asia.<\/li>\n<li>It is currently headquartered at the Gandanthegchenling Monastery in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and the\u00a0Supreme Head of Mongolian Buddhists is the\u00a0ABCP President.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0aims of ABCP: Striving to disseminate and implement the teachings of the Lord Buddha, ABCP aims to:\n<ul>\n<li>Bring together the efforts of Buddhists in support of\u00a0consolidating universal peace,\u00a0harmony, and cooperation among the peoples of Asia.<\/li>\n<li>Furthering their\u00a0economic and social advancement and promoting\u00a0respect for justice and human dignity.<\/li>\n<li>Disseminating the Buddhist culture, tradition, and heritage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>History:\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0roots of founding of ABCP\u00a0lay in the Cold War politics of peace movements, and consolidation of allies, and building popular outreach among the masses through various organizations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Most Venerable Gabji Samaagiin Gombojav, Khambo Lama of Mongolia, Venerable J. Gomboyev from Buriat, Khambo Lama of the former Soviet Union, Venerable Kushok Bakula Rinpoche from India, and Buddhist leaders from Sri Lanka and Nepal came together and officially founded the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP) in 1970 with a permanent headquarters in Ulaanbaatar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It drew\u00a0active participation from Mongolia, Japan, India, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bhutan, Russian Far East, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and other regional countries.<\/li>\n<li>ABCP was registered as an\u00a0observer to the UN\u2019s Economic and Social Council in 1988 in recognition of its contribution to the well-being of humanity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the UN\u2019s Economic and Social Council?<\/h3>\n<p>Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN), responsible for the direction and coordination of the economic, social, humanitarian, and cultural activities carried out by the UN.
