


{"id":19467,"date":"2024-01-18T08:11:43","date_gmt":"2024-01-18T02:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19467"},"modified":"2025-04-05T17:44:07","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T12:14:07","slug":"shreshta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/shreshta\/","title":{"rendered":"Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The scheme aims to\u00a0provide access to the best private residential schools for\u00a0meritorious students from Scheduled Caste (SC) communities.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It will\u00a0provide scholarships to meritorious students from SC communities\u00a0to study in private and NGO-run residential schools for Classes 9-12.<\/li>\n<li>The scheme is expected to provide admissions to around 3,000 students in Classes 9 and 11 each year.<\/li>\n<li>The core objectives of the scheme are to enhance the reach of the development initiatives of the government and fill in the gap in service-deprived SC dominant areas in the education sector.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The scheme will\u00a0collaborate with voluntary organisations to provide an environment that can help create conditions for socio-economic upliftment and the overall development of the SC communities.<\/li>\n<li>Implementation agency: The\u00a0Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice &amp; Empowerment.<\/li>\n<li>The scheme is being\u00a0implemented in two modes.\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>First, there are SHRESHTA schools, which consist of the\u00a0best CBSE\/ state board-affiliated private residential schools.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Under SHRESHTA,\u00a0outstanding students from SC communities, across states and UTs, will be\u00a0selected annually through the National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA (NETS)\u00a0and will be admitted to these schools for education in Classes 9 through 12.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The schools that will be part of this scheme will be\u00a0selected based on a performance score\u00a0of above 75 percent pass rate in Class 10 and 12 board examinations\u00a0over the past three years.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0second mode is based on NGO and voluntary organisation-run schools and hostels. The institutions run by such organisations that run up to Class 12 will also be made part of the scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility:\n<ul>\n<li>Students whose\u00a0annual parental income is less than Rs 2,50,000 and who belong to SC communities are eligible to participate in this scheme.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Only those candidates\u00a0who have passed or are appearing in Class VIII\/X in the given academic session can apply for taking admission to Class IX\/XI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0scheme will cover the tuition fee, the hostel fee, and the mess fees for qualifying students.<\/li>\n<li>Students\u00a0will also be\u00a0allowed to choose from a range of schools based on their merit.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a national-level educational board for both public and private schools in India. CBSE is under the direct supervision of the Indian government. Every year, CBSE also holds its national board examinations for students in classes 10th and 12th.
