


{"id":19495,"date":"2024-01-19T07:04:25","date_gmt":"2024-01-19T01:34:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19495"},"modified":"2025-04-05T17:55:46","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T12:25:46","slug":"isopod","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/isopod\/","title":{"rendered":"What is an Isopod?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Isopod<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Isopods are an order of\u00a0invertebrates (animals without backbones) that belong to the greater\u00a0crustacean group of animals, which includes crabs and shrimp.<\/li>\n<li>Scientists estimate that there are around 10,000 species of isopods (all belonging to the order \u201cIsopoda\u201d).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>They also live in many\u00a0different types of habitats, from\u00a0mountains and deserts to the\u00a0deep sea, and they are\u00a0distributed worldwide.<\/li>\n<li>Features:\n<ul>\n<li>They are one of the\u00a0most morphologically diverse of all the\u00a0crustacean groups, coming in many\u00a0different shapes and sizes and ranging from micrometers to a half-meter in length.<\/li>\n<li>Isopods\u00a0often\u00a0do not look alike, but they do\u00a0have common features. For example,\u00a0all isopods have two pairs of antennae, compound eyes, and\u00a0four sets of jaws.<\/li>\n<li>The body of all isopods\u00a0consists of seven segments, each\u00a0with its own pair of walking legs.<\/li>\n<li>Isopods have a\u00a0short abdominal section\u00a0composed of six segments,\u00a0called \u201cpleons,\u201d and one or more of these segments is\u00a0fused into a tail section.<\/li>\n<li>Each pleon has a set of biramous (branching in two) limbs called \u201cpleopods\u201d that are used for swimming and respiration.<\/li>\n<li>About\u00a0half of the known species of isopods\u00a0live in the ocean. Others live in coastal and shelf waters, moving around on the seafloor or living in plants.<\/li>\n<li>Most are free-living, but a number of marine species are parasitic on other animals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are crustaceans?\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>Crustaceans (make up a very large group of the Arthropods which include the crabs, lobsters, crayfish, shrimp, krill, barnacles, brine shrimp, copepods, ostracods and mantis shrimp. They are invertebrates with a hard exoskeleton (carapace), a segmented body that is bilaterally symmetrical, more than four pairs of jointed appendages.
