{"id":19523,"date":"2024-01-19T12:13:31","date_gmt":"2024-01-19T06:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19523"},"modified":"2025-04-05T18:06:53","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T12:36:53","slug":"dat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/dat\/","title":{"rendered":"Distress Alert Transmitter"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Distress Alert Transmitter<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The first version of DAT has been operational since 2010.<\/li>\n<li>The fishermen at sea send\u00a0emergency messages from fishing boats.<\/li>\n<li>The messages are sent through a communication satellite and received at a\u00a0central control station (INMCC: Indian Mission Control Centre) where the alert signals are decoded for the identity and location of the fishing boat.<\/li>\n<li>The extracted information is forwarded\u00a0to Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centres (MRCCs) under Indian Coast Guard (ICG).<\/li>\n<li>Using this information the MRCC coordinates to undertake Search and\u00a0Rescue operations to save the fishermen in distress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is Second Generation DAT?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Taking advantage of technological developments in satellite communication and satellite navigation ISRO has improvised DAT with advanced capabilities and features evolving to Second Generation DAT (DAT-SG).<\/li>\n<li>The DAT-SG has the facility to\u00a0send back acknowledgement to the fishermen who activate the distress alert from sea. This gives an assurance to him of rescue coming to him.<\/li>\n<li>Apart from transmitting distress signals from the Sea, DAT-SG has the capability to receive messages from control centre.<\/li>\n<li>Using this, advance alert messages can be sent to the fishermen at sea whenever there are\u00a0events of bad weather, cyclone tsunami or any other emergencies.<\/li>\n<li>Further, the information about\u00a0Potential Fishing Zones (PFZs) are also transmitted to fishermen using DAT-SG on regular intervals.<\/li>\n<li>DAT-SG can be connected to\u00a0mobile phones using Bluetooth interface and the messages can be read in native language using an App in the mobile.<\/li>\n<li>The central control centre (INMCC) has a web based network management system called\u00a0\u201cSAGARMITRA\u201d which\u00a0maintains a database of registered DAT-SGs and helps MRCCs to access the information about boat, coordinate the boat in distress in real time.<\/li>\n<li>This helps the Indian Coast Guard to undertake Search &amp; Rescue operations at the time of distress, without any time delay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is an Indian space agency, founded in 1969 to develop an independent Indian space program. Its headquarters are in Bengaluru.
