North of the Indian plate is the\u00a0Eurasian plate; to the south east is the\u00a0Australian plate; to the south-west is the\u00a0African plate;\u00a0and to the west is the\u00a0Arabian plate.\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>As the\u00a0Indian plate\u00a0is moves northward relative to the Eurasian plate and collides with it, a\u00a0convergent boundary is created.<\/li>\n<li>On the opposite side, the\u00a0Indo-African boundary is divergent.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0western Indo-Arabian boundary is lateral relative to each other,\u00a0giving rise to a transform boundary.<\/li>\n<li>It was previously thought that the\u00a0Indian and Australian plates formed one single plate as there is no clear type of boundary but recent seismologic evidence suggests that the two plates will\u00a0have a transform boundary, as the drift velocities of these two plates are different\u00a0even if the general direction of motion of the two plates is similar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The collision of the Indian plate with the Eurasian plate about 50 million years ago\u00a0resulted in the erection of the Himalayan Mountains.<\/li>\n<li>As the\u00a0Indian plate is still active today and drifts at a velocity of about 5 cm per year,\u00a0earthquakes occur in the northern part of the plate.<\/li>\n<li>Because of the low-grade metamorphism that resulted in the collision of the Indian plate with the Eurasian plate, many\u00a0micaceous minerals are mined in the northern part of the country; in fact, India is the greatest producer of mica blocks and splitting.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Plate Tectonics?<\/h3>\n<p>Plate tectonics is the theory that Earth&#8217;s outer shell is divided into large slabs of solid rock, called \u201cplates,\u201d that glide over Earth&#8217;s mantle, the rocky inner layer above Earth\u2019s core. Earth\u2019s solid outer layer, which includes the crust and the uppermost mantle, is called the lithosphere. Below the lithosphere is the asthenosphere \u2014 a viscous layer kept malleable by heat deep within the Earth.
