Home Ministry revoked the FCRA licence of the Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), founded by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>About the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/foreign-contribution-regulation-act\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was originally enacted in <\/span><b>1976 during the Emergency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>prevent foreign influence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on India\u2019s internal affairs through financial contributions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>FCRA, 2010<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, currently in force, regulates the <\/span><b>acceptance and utilisation of foreign funds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by individuals, associations, and companies in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>primary objective<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is to ensure that <\/span><b>foreign donations do not compromise national sovereignty, integrity, or internal security<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and are used only for <\/span><b>legitimate developmental purposes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Amendments to FCRA<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>FCRA (Amendment), 2010<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consolidated the 1976 law.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expanded coverage to associations, NGOs, and companies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strengthened the regulatory 400;\">: Candidates for elections, journalists, media houses, judges, government servants, members of legislatures, political parties, and organisations of political nature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li
