{"id":19681,"date":"2024-01-24T10:57:12","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T05:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19681"},"modified":"2025-04-05T19:11:34","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T13:41:34","slug":"bharat-ratna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bharat-ratna\/","title":{"rendered":"Bharat Ratna"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Bharat Ratna<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the\u00a0highest civilian Award of the country which was instituted in\u00a0the year 1954.<\/li>\n<li>Eligibility:\n<ul>\n<li>Any person without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex is eligible for these awards.<\/li>\n<li>Though\u00a0usually conferred on India-born citizens, the Bharat Ratna has been awarded to one naturalised citizen, Mother Teresa, and to two non-Indians, Pakistan national\u00a0Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and former South African President\u00a0Nelson Mandela.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The original statutes did not provide for posthumous awards but were amended in 1955 to permit them. Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri became the first individual to be honoured posthumously.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is awarded in\u00a0recognition of exceptional service\/performance of the highest order in any field of\u00a0human endeavour.<\/li>\n<li>The recommendations for Bharat Ratna are made\u00a0by the Prime Minister himself to the President and no formal recommendations for this are necessary.<\/li>\n<li>The number of annual awards is restricted to a\u00a0maximum of three in a particular year.<\/li>\n<li>On conferment of the award, the recipient receives a\u00a0Sanad (certificate) signed by the President and a medallion. The award\u00a0does not carry any monetary grant.<\/li>\n<li>In terms of\u00a0Article 18 (1) of the Constitution, the\u00a0award cannot be used as a prefix or suffix to the recipient&#8217;s name.<\/li>\n<li>However, should an award winner consider it necessary, he\/she may use the following expression in their biodata\/letterhead\/visiting card etc. to indicate that he\/she is a recipient of the award.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)What are Padma Awards?<\/h3>\n<p>These are one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
