


{"id":19685,"date":"2024-01-24T02:32:44","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T21:02:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19685"},"modified":"2025-04-05T19:13:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T13:43:05","slug":"batadrava-than","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/batadrava-than\/","title":{"rendered":"Batadrava Than"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Batadrava Than<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Location: It is located in Nagaon district of\u00a0Assam,<\/li>\n<li>It is also known as the Bordowa Than, is one of the most sacred sites for Assamese\u00a0Vaishnavites.<\/li>\n<li>It is a temple complex at the birthplace of revered\u00a0Vaishnavite reformer-saint Srimanta Sankardeva.<\/li>\n<li>Sankardeva founded the\u00a0first-ever Kirtan Ghar at Bordowa in 1494 AD to practise and preach the neo Vaishnavite faith during the fifteenth century in Assam, and propagated the\u00a0Ek Saran Naam Dharma.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Features\n<ul>\n<li>It is enclosed by a brick wall and has\u00a0two entrances.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Kirtan Ghar, a capacious prayer house, was initially built by Sankardev using temporary materials.<\/li>\n<li>Connected to the Kirtan Ghar is the\u00a0Manikut, a place dedicated to housing sacred texts, scriptures, and manuscripts.<\/li>\n<li>The campus encompasses diverse structures such as\u00a0Natghar (Drama hall), Alohighar (Guest room),\u00a0Sabhaghar\u00a0(Assembly hall), Rabhaghar (Music room), Hatipukhuri, Aakashi Ganga, Doul mandir (festive temple), and others.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, a mini museum is present, showcasing historical articles and artifacts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>A very big festival &#8220;Doul Mohotsava&#8221; (Holi) is a yearly attraction for the devotees in Bordowa.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key facts about Shankardeva and his philisophy<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Sankardeva espoused a\u00a0society based on equality and fraternity, free from caste differences, orthodox Brahmanical rituals and sacrifices.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Ek Saran Naam Dharma focussed on worship in the form of\u00a0bhakti\u00a0(devotion) to Lord Krishna, through singing and congregational listening of His name and deeds.<\/li>\n<li>His teaching focused on\u00a0prayer and chanting (naam)\u00a0instead of idol worship.<\/li>\n<li>His dharma was based on the four components of\u00a0deva (god),\u00a0naam (prayers),\u00a0bhakats\u00a0(devotees), and\u00a0guru\u00a0(teacher).<\/li>\n<li>The Neo-Vaishnavite reformist movement that Sankardeva started is behind the monastic institutions called Thans\/Sattras that dot Assam.<\/li>\n<li>As the saint travelled across Assam, spreading his teachings, these Sattras\/Thans were established as\u00a0centres of religious, social and cultural reforms in the 16th century.<\/li>\n<li>Today, the Sattras promulgate Sankardeva\u2019s unique \u201cworship through art\u201d approach with music (borgeet), dance (xattriya) and theatre (bhauna).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Vaishnavism?<\/h3>\n<p>It is one of the principal traditions of Hinduism that is distinguished from other schools by its acknowledgement of Vishnu as the supreme divinity.
