Evidently, the script used for writing the Sanskrit works obtained the same name.<\/li>\n<li>At one time, it was\u00a0prevalent throughout South India.<\/li>\n<li>When the Malayalam language\u00a0began to freely borrow\u00a0words as well as the rules of grammar from Sanskrit,\u00a0this script was adopted for writing that language and was\u00a0known as Arya Ezhuthu.<\/li>\n<li>Both Grantha and Tamil scripts appear alike in modern forms. The\u00a0evolution of both scripts from Brahmi was also\u00a0more or less similar.\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0development of the Grantha script in Tamil Nadu may be\u00a0divided into four periods. The archaic and ornamental, the transitional, the medieval, and the modern.<\/li>\n<li>Archaic and ornamental variety is commonly known as\u00a0Pallava Grantha.\u00a0Mahendravarman&#8217;s Tiruchirappalli rock cut cave and other cave temple inscriptions,\u00a0Narasimhan&#8217;s Mamallapuram, Kanchi Kailasanatha, and Saluvankuppam temple inscriptions, Mutharaiyar&#8217;s Senthalai inscriptions are examples of this variety.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0transitional variety of Grantha inscriptions roughly belong to three centuries\u00a0between 650 CE and 950 CE.\u00a0Later Pallava&#8217;s (Nandivarman&#8217;s Kasakudi, Udayendram plates, etc.) and\u00a0Pandyan Nedunjadaiyan&#8217;s Anaimalai inscriptions are samples of this.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0medieval variety dates from about\u00a0950 CE to 1250 CE.\u00a0Inscriptions of the imperial Cholas of Thanjavur are examples of this.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0modern variety belongs to the\u00a0later Pandya&#8217;s\u00a0and Vijayanagarar periods.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It was popular in Tamil Nadu until the early 20th century.<\/li>\n<li>After the introduction of printing machines,\u00a0many Sanskrit books transcribed from palm leaves were printed in Grantha script.<\/li>\n<li>After Independence,\u00a0the popularity of Hindi in Deva Nagari script\u00a0influenced\u00a0all printing works, and Grantha script went out of vogue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) Who were Pallavas?\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>The Pallavas (575- 897 AD) were one of the greatest dynasties of South India. Simhavishnu (575-590 AD) was the founder of the Pallava dynasty.The Pallavas rose to power during the reign of Mahendravarman and Narasimhavarman-I.
