


{"id":19824,"date":"2024-01-28T06:15:45","date_gmt":"2024-01-28T00:45:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19824"},"modified":"2025-04-05T20:09:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T14:39:05","slug":"singchung-bugun-village-community-reserve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/singchung-bugun-village-community-reserve\/","title":{"rendered":"Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a 17-square-kilometre biodiversity hotspot <strong>located in Arunachal Pradesh<\/strong>, around 40 km from the famous Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li>The reserve was created in 2017 to protect biodiversity in the region.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>home to critically endangered<\/strong> species such as the passerine <strong>bird Bugun Liocichla<\/strong> (Liocichlabugunorum), which is named after the Buguns community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o It was <strong>one of the first bird specie<\/strong>s to be <strong>discovered in India since<\/strong> the country\u2019s <strong>independence<\/strong> in 1947, and it <strong>lives only on the Buguns\u2019 community lands<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>o The <strong>Buguns are an indigenous community<\/strong> with a population of about 2,000 people, spread across 12 villages that are dotted outside the forests of Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is a Community Reserve?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Conservation reserves and community reserves<\/strong> in India are terms denoting protected areas of India which typically <strong>act as buffer zones,connectors,<\/strong> and migration corridors <strong>between established national parks, wildlife sanctuaries<\/strong> and reserved and <strong>protected forests in India<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Such areas are <strong>designated as conservation reserves if they are uninhabited<\/strong> and <strong>completely owned by the Government of India<\/strong> but used for subsistence by communities, <strong>and community reserves if part of the land is privately owned.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>These protected area categories were <strong>first introduced in the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Act of 2002<\/strong>, an amendment to the Wildlife Protection Act (WLPA) of 1972.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>These categories were added because of reduced protection in and around existing or proposed protected areas due to private ownership of land, and land use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00b7 The provisions of the WLPA apply to an area once it has been declared a community reserve.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Wildlife Protection Act (WLPA) of 1972?<\/h3>\n<p>The Government enacted Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 with the objective of effectively protecting the wildlife of this country and to control poaching, smuggling and illegal trade in wildlife and its derivatives.
