{"id":19832,"date":"2025-09-18T12:00:05","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T06:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19832"},"modified":"2025-09-18T15:48:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T10:18:07","slug":"what-is-directorate-of-revenue-intelligence-dri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-directorate-of-revenue-intelligence-dri\/","title":{"rendered":"Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Directorate of Revenue Intelligence Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of ongoing pan-India \u201cOperation Weed Out\u201d, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 39.2 kg of hydroponic weed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, recently.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Directorate of Revenue Intelligence<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DRI was <\/span><b>constituted in 1957<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the <\/span><b>apex anti-smuggling intelligence and investigation agency.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>works under<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Central Board of Indirect Taxes &amp; Customs (CBIC), Ministry of Finance,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Government of India.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DRI <\/span><b>enforces <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the provisions of the <\/span><b>Customs Act, 1962<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and over<\/span><b> fifty other allied acts, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including the <\/span><b>Arms Act, NDPS Act, COFEPOSA (Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities), Wildlife Act, Antiquities Act, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is tasked with <\/span><b>detecting and curbing smuggling of contraband<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including drug trafficking and <\/span><b>illicit international trade in wildlife and environmentally sensitive items,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as well as <\/span><b>combating commercial frauds related to international trade and evasion of customs duty.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>has a country-wide network of zonal, regional, and sub-regional units<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>intelligence cells.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DRI c<\/span><b>ollects, analyzes, and disseminates intelligence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the field formations, <\/span><b>helps in investigations, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>keeps statistics of seizures and prices<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\/rates, etc, for <\/span><b>watching trends of smuggling<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and movement of other contraband and <\/span><b>suggest remedies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for fixing loopholes in existing laws and procedures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The DRI has also been designated as the <\/span><b>lead agency for S-CORD, the national anti-smuggling coordination centre. <\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\">DRI has also been at the <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">forefront in international Customs collaboration through Customs Mutual Assistance Agreements <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o<\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">f CBIC with over 60 other countries,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where the thrust is on information exchange and learning from the best practices of other Customs administrations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2167182#:~:text=As%20part%20of%20ongoing%20pan,th%2D14th%20September%202025.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PIB<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) was constituted in 1957 as the apex anti-smuggling intelligence and investigation agency.
