(MEIL), which is constructing the Ratle Hydroelectric Project recently said it may pull out of the project if the administration failed to stop threats and interference from locals and politicians.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Ratle Hydroelectric Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>850 MW run-of-river<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hydroelectric power project being built on the <\/span><b>Chenab River <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the Kishtwar District of <\/span><b>Jammu &amp; Kashmir.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is <\/span><b>implemented by <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation (RHPCL).<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RHPCL was formed as a<\/span><b> joint venture (JV)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between <\/span><b>Jammu &amp; Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and India\u2019s state-owned <\/span><b>National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>NHPC and JKSPDC <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hold<\/span><b> 51% and 49% equity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ownership in RHPCL, respectively.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>construction work <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is being undertaken by <\/span><b>Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project includes a 133-meter-tall and 194.8-meter-long<\/span><b> concrete gravity dam,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a diversion dam, and an <\/span><b>underground powerhouse <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the right bank of the river.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The underground powerhouse measuring 168 m x 24.5 m x 49 m will house four 205 MW Francis turbine-generating units and a 30 MW auxiliary turbine-generating unit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is expected to generate 3,137 GWh of electricity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Pakistan <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has <\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">frequently alleged<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the<\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> project violates <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> Indus Waters Treaty of 1960.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/jammu-and-kashmir\/miel-threatens-to-pull-out-of-850mw-ratle-power-project-in-jk-if-threats-political-interferences-not-stopped\/article70392654.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ratle Hydroelectric Project is an 850 MW run-of-river hydroelectric power project being built on the Chenab River in the Kishtwar District of Jammu &#038; Kashmir.
