based on an <strong>indigenous design<\/strong> and <strong>constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was commissioned in 2014 and is <strong>based in Chennai<\/strong> under the <strong>Eastern Naval Command.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>primary role<\/strong> of the ship is to undertake <strong>surveillance of<\/strong> the country\u2019s <strong>exclusive economic zone (EEZ)<\/strong> besides other operational tasks such as <strong>anti-piracy patrols, fleet support operations<\/strong>, maritime security of offshore assets, and escort operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Features<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Measuring about 105 metres in length, 13 metres in breadth, and displacing 2,200 tonnes, the ship can achieve a speed of 25 knots.<\/li>\n<li>The ship has a <strong>range of 6,500 nautical miles.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>propelled by two diesel engines<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The ship\u2019s weapon and sensor outfits include a 76.2 mm gun (super rapid gun mount), close-in weapon systems, and the latest navigational and early warning radars.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>capable of embarking one Dhruv\/Chetak is <strong>connected to the Somali Sea<\/strong> to the south <strong>by the Guardafui Channe<\/strong>l and <strong>to the Red Sea<\/strong> on the west <strong>by the Strait of Bab el Mandeb<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The dominant relief feature of the gulf\u2019s terrain is the <strong>Sheba Ridge<\/strong>, an <strong>extension of the Indian Ocean ridge system<\/strong>, which extends along the middle of the gulf.<\/li>\n<li>It is also a critical <strong>part of the Suez Canal shipping route,<\/strong> which connects the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr
