They can\u00a0sustain shrubs, trees,\u00a0walkways and benches with their\u00a0complex structural support,\u00a0irrigation, drainage, and root protection layers.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Extensive green roofs are relatively light. They support hearty native ground cover that requires\u00a0little maintenance. Extensive green roofs usually exist solely for their environmental benefits and don&#8217;t function as accessible rooftop gardens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Benefits:\n<ul>\n<li>Green roofs\u00a0last longer than conventional roofs,\u00a0reduce energy costs with\u00a0natural insulation, create\u00a0peaceful retreats for people and animals, and\u00a0absorb storm water, potentially\u00a0lessening the need for complex and\u00a0expensive drainage systems.<\/li>\n<li>On a wider scale, green roofs\u00a0improve air quality and help reduce the Urban Heat Island Effect, a condition in which city and suburban developments absorb and trap heat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Key Facts about Fungi<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Fungi, along with Animalia (animals), Plantae (plants), Protista, Archaea\/Archaebacteria, and Bacteria or Eubacteria,\u00a0form the six \u2018kingdoms\u2019 of biology.<\/li>\n<li>They are\u00a0eukaryotic organisms, i.e., their cells contain membrane-bound organelles and clearly defined nuclei.<\/li>\n<li>Reproduction: Fungi usually reproduce both\u00a0sexually and asexually.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Distribution:\n<ul>\n<li>Fungi are either\u00a0terrestrial or aquatic, the latter living in\u00a0freshwater or marine environments.<\/li>\n<li>They are found in\u00a0all temperate and tropical regions of the world where there is sufficient moisture to enable them to grow.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0few species of fungi\u00a0live in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, although they are rare and are more often found living in symbiosis with algae in the form of lichens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Importance of fungi:\n<ul>\n<li>They help in\u00a0breaking down dead organic material, they continue the cycle of nutrients through ecosystems.<\/li>\n<li>Fungi,\u00a0as food, play a role in\u00a0human nutrition in the form of\u00a0mushrooms.<\/li>\n<li>They also act as\u00a0agents of fermentation in the production of bread, cheeses, alcoholic beverages, and numerous other food preparations.<\/li>\n<li>Secondary metabolites of fungi are used as\u00a0medicines, such as antibiotics and\u00a0anticoagulants.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is mycorrhiza?<\/h3>\n<p>Mycorrhizae are a symbiotic association between plant roots and fungi.
