{"id":19969,"date":"2026-02-01T11:42:34","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T06:12:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=19969"},"modified":"2026-02-06T17:48:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T12:18:13","slug":"new-ramsar-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/new-ramsar-sites\/","title":{"rendered":"New Ramsar Sites"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>New Ramsar Sites Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change has announced the addition of two new wetlands to India\u2019s Ramsar network, ahead of World Wetlands Day.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About New Ramsar Sites<\/b><\/h2>\n<h2><b>Patna Bird Sanctuary<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is located in the state<\/span><b> of Uttar Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It consists of <\/span><b>freshwater marshes, woodlands and grasslands,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is surrounded by agricultural landscapes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together, these different landscapes create a wide range of habitats and support a high level of biodiversity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has been designated an <\/span><b>Important Bird and Biodiversity Area<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IBA) by Birdlife International.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flora and Fauna:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It consists of 178 bird species and 252 plant species.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>About Chhari-Dhand Wetland<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is located in <\/span><b>Kutch, Gujarat.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>seasonal saline wetland<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> situated between the <\/span><b>famous Banni grasslands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>salt flats of Kutch.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>important wintering site for waterfowl.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Fauna:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It supports species such as critically endangered <\/span><b>sociable lapwing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the vulnerable common <\/span><b>pochard,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and, notably, <\/span><b>common cranes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Grus grus) annually.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2221114&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PIB<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Patna Bird Sanctuary and Chhari-Dhand Wetland both have been added as new Ramsar Sites.
