{"id":20079,"date":"2024-02-04T06:37:30","date_gmt":"2024-02-04T01:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20079"},"modified":"2025-04-05T22:14:52","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T16:44:52","slug":"what-are-obelisks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-are-obelisks\/","title":{"rendered":"What are Obelisks?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Obelisks:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a newly discovered class of <strong>virus-like entities present in the human body<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It comprises a <strong>class of diverse RNAs that have colonized<\/strong> and gone unnoticed in <strong>human and global microbiomes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Named after the <strong>highly symmetrical, rod-like structures<\/strong> formed <strong>by their twisted lengths of RNA<\/strong>, the Obelisks&#8217; <strong>genetic sequences are only around 1,000 characters<\/strong> (nucleotides) in size.<\/li>\n<li>These mysterious bits of genetic material <strong>have no detectable sequences<\/strong> or even <strong>structural similarities<\/strong> known <strong>to any other biological agents<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They&#8217;re also <strong>significantly larger than other genetic molecules <\/strong>that coexist inside cells, from plants to bacteria, called plasmids, which are more commonly composed of DNA.<\/li>\n<li>Obelisks <strong>represent their own class of organism<\/strong>. They lie somewhere <strong>between viruses and viroids.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Although the hosts of other obelisks remain unknown, there is a possibility that <strong>some of them may be found in bacteria.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Different types<\/strong> of Obelisks <strong>appear to be present indifferent areas of our bodies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>What are Viroids?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Viroids are <strong>tiny loops of RNA<\/strong>, a genetic cousin of DNA, and they&#8217;ve been <strong>found to infect primarily plants.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Viroids <strong>differ from larger,RNA-based viruses<\/strong> in several ways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o First, <strong>they&#8217;re naked<\/strong>, <strong>lacking the protective shells<\/strong> that viruses use to hold their genetic material.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>o Second, their <strong>RNA doesn&#8217;t contain instructions to build proteins<\/strong>; whereas viruses carry instructions for their outer shells and for certain enzymes they need to replicate, viroids co-opt these enzymes from their hosts.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is DNA?<\/h3>\n<p>The deoxyribonucleic acid is a molecule found in the cells of all living organisms. It serves as the genetic blueprint for the development, functioning, growth, and reproduction of living organisms.
