{"id":20172,"date":"2024-02-06T08:12:35","date_gmt":"2024-02-06T02:42:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20172"},"modified":"2025-04-05T22:52:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T17:22:00","slug":"thrips-parvispinus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/thrips-parvispinus\/","title":{"rendered":"Thrips Parvispinus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Thrips Parvispinus:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an <strong>invasive pest species.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is a <strong>polyphagous pest<\/strong>, which can also grow and multiply on alternate hosts like drumstick, pigeon pea, chickpea, papaya, mango and <strong>weed species<\/strong> like Parthenium, Cleome viscosa, Prosopis sp., Lantana camera, Calotropis sp., Tecoma sp. and wild solanum plants.<\/li>\n<li>It has been reported from <strong>Thailand, Australia and Europe.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The last two decades witnessed a drastic extension in the geographic distribution and it is now known to occur in France, Greece, Hawaii, Mauritius, Reunion, Spain, Tanzania and the Netherlands, besides India<\/li>\n<li>In India, this species was first reported on <strong>Papaya from Bengaluru in 2015.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Thrips parvispinus adults mainly colonize on flowers and underside of leaves whereas larvae suck sap from undersurface of the leaves.<\/li>\n<li>Infestation causes <strong>heavy flower drop<\/strong> and thereby reduces fruit production.<\/li>\n<li>Its <strong>infestation increased during heavy rainfall<\/strong> of North East monsoon in contrast to other thrips species.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>What are Thrips?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Thrips are an important <strong>group of sucking pests<\/strong> which cause significant economic losses both as pests and vectors of serious plant viruses in several horticultural crops.<\/li>\n<li>There are reports on the outbreak of sucking pests like thrips in different regions due to changes in <strong>crop production patterns, pesticide usage and climate change.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1:What is an Invasive Species?<\/h3>\n<p>An invasive species is an organism that is not indigenous, or native, to a particular area.
