


{"id":20176,"date":"2026-08-13T12:23:17","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T06:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20176"},"modified":"2026-08-13T14:30:19","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T09:00:19","slug":"black-necked-crane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/black-necked-crane\/","title":{"rendered":"Black-Necked Crane"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Black-Necked Crane Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) has sterilised over 2,950 Free Ranging Dogs (FRD) to save Black-necked Cranes (Grus nigricollis) in Ladakh, whose chicks and nests were being attacked in alpine wetlands.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Black-Necked Crane<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is classed as a medium-sized member of the <\/span><b>crane family.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Other Names:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is locally known as <\/span><b>\u201ccha thung-thung<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d in Ladakh and \u201c<\/span><b>thungdung karma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d in <\/span><b>Arunachal Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Appearance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It has a largely <\/span><b>whitish-grey body<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contrasted by a <\/span><b>jet-black head<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and upper neck, splashes of red around the eye, and long, elegant legs built for wading through alpine bogs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Distribution:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> High altitude marshes and lakes of <\/span><b>Tibetan Plateau<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Tibet, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Gansu), Sichuan (China), and eastern Ladakh (India).<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A small wintering population is also found in <\/span><b>Sangti and Zimithang valleys of Arunachal Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Diet:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> These are <\/span><b>carnivores and herbivores<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
