400;\">The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) recently enabled online ticket booking for &#8220;over 170 centrally protected monuments and museums&#8221; on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), seeking to expand digital access.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a transformative initiative by the <\/span><b>Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Government of India, aimed at <\/span><b>democratizing digital commerce.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Launched in April <\/span><b>2022<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ONDC aims at <\/span><b>promoting open networks <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for all aspects of the <\/span><b>exchange of goods and services over digital or electronic networks.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ONDC represents a step toward digital commerce democratization, <\/span><b>shifting it from<\/b> <b>a platform-centric model<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014where a few e-commerce giants dominate the market\u2014<\/span><b>to an open, interoperable platform where buyers and sellers can interact regardless of the platforms they\u2019re using.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ONDC is based <\/span><b>on open-sourced methodology, using open specifications<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>open network protocols independent of any specific e-commerce platform.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It envisions creating a <\/span><b>level playing field for sellers, buyers, and service providers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across India, <\/span><b>particularly <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">small and medium enterprises (<\/span><b>MSMEs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ONDC initiative has several key <\/span><b>objectives<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Democratization of Commerce: Break the dominance of large e-commerce platforms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by enabling interoperability across networks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Inclusivity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Empower small businesses, retailers, and local artisans to access the digital marketplace.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Cost Efficiency:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Lower the cost of customer acquisition and transaction processing for sellers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Market Expansion:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Bridge regional and linguistic gaps, bringing untapped markets into the fold of digital commerce.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Customer Empowerment:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Increase options for buyers by providing access to a broader array of sellers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will <\/span><b>enable local commerce across segments,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as mobility, grocery, food order and delivery, hotel booking and travel, among others, <\/span><b>to be discovered and engaged by any network-enabled application.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>comprises buyer-side apps<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where consumers can place orders, <\/span><b>seller-side apps <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that onboard merchants and display their listings, and <\/span><b>logistics platforms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that handle deliveries.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Benefits<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>offers small retailer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s an <\/span><b>opportunity to provide their services, and goods<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>buyers across the country <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through an e-commerce system.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ONDC <\/span><b>enables merchants to save their data<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>build credit history <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and reach consumers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is expected to <\/span><b>digitise the entire value chain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, promote <\/span><b>inclusion of suppliers,<\/b> <b>derive efficiencies in logistics,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and enhance value for consumers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li
