text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>tributary of the Ganges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Ganga) River, flowing entirely through the state of <\/span><b>Uttar Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The river is also known by the names <\/span><b>Gumti or Gomati.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Course<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>originates <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the <\/span><b>Gomat Taal,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> otherwise called Fulhaar Jheel, a lake located in the Pilibhit District in Uttar Pradesh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The river<\/span><b> drains the area between the Ramganga and Sharda Rivers.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>After flowing southwards <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through the districts of Lucknow, Barabhanki, Sultanpur, Faizabad, and Jaunpur, it <\/span><b>joins with the River Ganga.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The river extends to about <\/span><b>900 km.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It drains a basin of about 18,750 sq.km.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>entire Gomti basin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><b>underlain by thick alluvial sediments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Quaternary age.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The alluvial sediments consist of boulders, pebbles, gravel, sand, silt, clay, and kankars.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The unconsolidated unit may be further subdivided into<\/span><b> younger alluvium and older alluvium.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>younger alluvium <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">occupies the <\/span><b>present-day flood plains,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while the <\/span><b>older group occupies elevated portions,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mainly the <\/span><b>doab portions.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> older alluvium<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is characterized by <\/span><b>kankar nodules<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at depth otherwise it is similar to the younger alluvium.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>perennial river. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The river is characterised by<\/span><b> sluggish flow throughout the year,<\/b> <b>except during the monsoon <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">season, when heavy rainfall causes a manifold increase in the runoff.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Significant <\/span><b>tributaries <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the Gomti include the <\/span><b>Sai River, Chowka River, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kathina River, and Saryu River.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are various <\/span><b>cities <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that are situated on the banks of River Gomti, such as <\/span><b>Sultanpur, Lucknow, Jaunpur, and Lakhimpur Kheri. <\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
