


{"id":20327,"date":"2026-02-02T11:42:58","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T06:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20327"},"modified":"2026-02-02T16:53:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T11:23:16","slug":"sgb-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sgb-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Sovereign Gold Bonds"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Sovereign Gold Bonds Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Budget has clarified that the capital gains tax exemption on sovereign gold bonds will not apply to investors who purchase them in the secondary market and hold them to maturity.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sovereign Gold Bonds<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These bonds are government <\/span><b>securities denominated in grams of gold.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The SGB Scheme was first launched by the <\/span><b>Government of India (GOI) on October 30, 2015.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are <\/span><b>substitutes for holding physical gold<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Investors have to pay the issue price, and the bonds will be redeemed upon maturity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Issuance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The bond is <\/span><b>issued by the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/reserve-bank-of-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reserve Bank<\/a> on behalf of the GOI.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Eligible to invest in the SGBs: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bonds will be <\/span><b>restricted for sale to resident Indian entities,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including individuals, Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), Trusts, Universities and Charitable Institutions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Investment Limits in SGBs<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bonds are issued in <\/span><b>denominations of one gram of gold<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in multiples thereof.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>minimum investment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><b>bond shall be one gram,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a maximum subscription limit of <\/span><b>4 kg for individuals,<\/b> <b>4 kg for HUFs, and 20 kg for trusts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In case of joint holding, the investment limit of 4 KG will be applied to the first applicant only.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Term:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The term of the bond will <\/span><b>be for a period of 8 years,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with an exit option in the 5th, 6th, and 7th years, to be exercised on the interest payment dates.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bonds are sold through offices or branches of <\/span><b>Nationalised Banks, Scheduled Private Banks,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Scheduled Foreign Banks, <\/span><b>designated Post Offices,<\/b> <b>Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
