They are the\u00a0most reactive nonmetals.<\/li>\n<li>The halogen atoms\u00a0carry seven valence electrons in their outermost electron shell.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>This\u00a0accounts for their higher reactivity and\u00a0tendency to gain one electron\u00a0and form ionic bonds\u00a0or share electrons with other elements\u00a0to form covalent bonds.\n<ul>\n<li>Among all the halogens,\u00a0fluorine is the most reactive, and Iodine is the least reactive of all.<\/li>\n<li>In combined form,\u00a0fluorine is the most abundant of the halogens in Earth\u2019s crust.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Halogens are the\u00a0only group on the periodic table\u00a0that has elements in the solid,\u00a0liquid, and gas phase\u00a0at room temperature.
