V. Rajamannar.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Dr. Rajendra Prasad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the first President of India, <\/span><b>inaugurated <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it on 28 January <\/span><b>1953<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Currently<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it is an<\/span><b> autonomous body of the Ministry of Culture,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Government of India.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Headquarters: New Delhi<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Functions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The academy functions as the <\/span><b>apex body of the performing arts <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the country to preserve and promote the vast cultural heritage of India expressed in <\/span><b>music, dance, and drama.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also <\/span><b>works with governments and art academies in states<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and territories of the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>In addition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Akademi<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Subsidizes the work of institutions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> engaged in teaching, performing, or promoting music, dance, or theatre.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Gives grants to aid research, documentation, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and publishing in the performing arts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Organises and subsidises seminars <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>conferences <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of subject specialists.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Documents and records<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the performing arts for its audio-visual archive.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Renders advice <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and assistance to the <\/span><b>government of India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the task of formulating and <\/span><b>implementing policies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and programmes in the field.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carries a part of the responsibilities of the state for <\/span><b>fostering cultural contacts <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between regions in the country, as well as between India and the world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Organises its annual festival <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of music<\/span><b>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dance, and theatre in <\/span><b>NCT Delhi.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the<\/span><b> highest national recognition <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conferred on <\/span><b>practising artists.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Akademi also <\/span><b>confers Fellowships on eminent artists <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and scholars of music, dance, and drama;
