Rajamannar as its first Chairman.<\/li>\n<li>It was set up in 1953 for the\u00a0preservation and promotion of the vast\u00a0intangible heritage of India\u2019s diverse culture expressed in forms of music, dance and drama.<\/li>\n<li>Presently, it is an Autonomous Body of the\u00a0Ministry of Culture.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Chairman of the Akademi is\u00a0appointed by the President of India for a term of five years.<\/li>\n<li>It is fully funded by the Government for the implementation of its schemes and programmes.<\/li>\n<li>Aims and objectives\n<ul>\n<li>To\u00a0co-ordinate the activities of regional or State Akademies of dance, drama and music;<\/li>\n<li>To promote research in the fields of Indian dance, drama and music and for this purpose, to establish a library and museum, etc.;<\/li>\n<li>To\u00a0co-operate with such similar academies as there may be and other institutions and associations for the furtherance of its objects and for the enrichment of Indian culture as a whole;<\/li>\n<li>To\u00a0encourage the exchange of ideas and enrichment of techniques between the different regions in regard to the arts of dance, drama and music;<\/li>\n<li>To encourage, where necessary, the establishment\u00a0of theatre centres, on the basis of\u00a0regional languages, and co-operation among different theatre centres;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards are the highest national recognition conferred on practising artists.<\/li>\n<li>The Akademi also confers Fellowships on eminent artists and scholars of music, dance and drama; and has in 2006 instituted annual awards to young artists \u2013 the\u00a0Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar?<\/h3>\n<p>It is an annual Indian award given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi to outstanding artists under 40 who have demonstrated talent in the fields of music, dance and drama.
