{"id":20411,"date":"2024-02-12T07:22:55","date_gmt":"2024-02-12T01:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=20411"},"modified":"2025-04-06T01:09:20","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T19:39:20","slug":"rollapadu-ws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/rollapadu-ws\/","title":{"rendered":"Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is located in the state of\u00a0Andhra Pradesh.<\/li>\n<li>It lies between the\u00a0Nallamalai and Yerramalai hill ranges of the\u00a0Eastern Ghats.<\/li>\n<li>It was declared a sanctuary in 1988 to protect the dwindling populations of the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard.<\/li>\n<li>Uniqueness: It is the only GIB Sanctuary in Andhra Pradesh.<\/li>\n<li>It owes its genesis to the discovery of the endangered Great Indian Bustard (GIB).<\/li>\n<li>Flora:\u00a0About 32 species of grassed like Aristida funiculata, Chrysopogon fulvus, Heteropogon contortus, like Cassia fistula (Golden shower tree), Butea monosperma (Flame of the forest), Acacia spp, Ziziphus mauritiana, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Fauna:\n<ul>\n<li>The grassland Sanctuary is rich in invertebrate fauna particularly the insects that form a major part of the diet of most of the birds.<\/li>\n<li>Land monitor lizards, Geckos, Skinks, Saw-scaled viper; etc. So far about 6 species of amphibians have been recorded here.<\/li>\n<li>There are about 124 bird species like the Lesser florican, Demoiselle crane, Black stork, White stork, Harriers, etc;<\/li>\n<li>These plains are also a home to endangered mammals like the\u00a0Golden jackal, Indian wolf, Black buck, Chinkara; etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is the Great Indian Bustard?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a bustard found on the Indian subcontinent. It is among the heaviest of the flying birds.
